THE regional health department has said that the campaign to give the third dose of the Covid-19 vaccine is well under way, with almost 600,000 doses having been administered so far. The coronavirus vaccine is being given simultaneously with the flu jab, starting with older and most vulnerable groups.
The health department also reported that this weekend 2,190 people have been given a jab as part of the #VacFriday campaign where mobile vaccination centres were set up across the region close to shopping centres. The response was positive and in some cases there were long queues outside.
Health professionals at Valencia’s bullring vaccination centre had planned to pack up at 9pm, but stayed until they had treated all the people in the queue, finishing at nearly 11.30pm.
On Friday alone 1,719 doses of vaccine were given in the five mobile centres set up across the region.
- 556 at the bullring in Valencia
- 288 at Ikea in Alfafar
- 637 in La Salera shopping centre in Castellón
- 216 in the Plaza Mar 2 shopping centre in Alicante
- 22 in La Marina shopping centre in Finestrat
The mobile centres give vaccinations without the need for an appointment. The health department are trying to reach those who have not yet been vaccinated, those who are not fully vaccinated and those who are due to have the booster jab (over 70s,risk groups and those who received the single-dose Janssen vaccine).
All you need to take is your SIP card.
The health department plans to continue with the mobile centres, making the most of the city’s marathon next weekend, setting up at Valencia’s City of Arts and Sciences (Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias) on Friday 3 December, between 10am and 2pm and 4pm and 8pm, where runners, friends and family of runners, or anyone else can turn up without an appointment to get the vaccine. Health workers will be in the same spot on Saturday 4 December between 10am and 2pm.
Vaccines will also be offered at La Salera shopping centre, Castellón on 3, 10 and 17 December between 4pm and 9pm, and in l’Aljub shopping centre, Elche, on 3 December between 5pm and 9pm.
