Almost 26,000 people have turned up to be vaccinated without appointments during the past two weeks, according to health department figures released on Sunday.
In Castellon 2,653 people have taken up the offer, while in Valencia 13,763 have had a jab and in Alicante 9,320.
In an attempt to attract more unvaccinated people, a mobile vaccination centre was even set up outside Valencia CF’s Mestalla stadium before Sunday night’s match against Real Madrid, vaccinating a total of 120 people. Meanwhile in Elche’s Martínez Valero stadium 74 were vaccinated.
Valencia president, Ximo Puig, retweeted the sad story of a man who took up the offer of the vaccine outside Mestalla, having that very morning been to the funeral of a 35-year-old friend who hadn’t been vaccinated.
